Our October flyin will be to Castle (KMER) in the central valley. Louise Mateos is hosting.
We are going to meet at the base of the tower at 11am on Saturday 10/19. I’m working out transportation to lunch. (Still need to call the FBO). On the way back we will visit the museum. This is an amazing museum of vintage aircraft that you can walk all around and even into some. Not to be missed!
Castle used to be an Air Force Strategic Air Command Base which closed in 1995. The field has been a public use airport ever since. It boasts an 11,800ft runway, so plenty of opportunities to land multiple times in one approach. Plan carefully or you’ll end up taxiing for a mile or so. Foreflight is not showing any restaurants on the field, but there used to be a small café, so Louise will send out a message regarding lunch.
This is a fun, relatively short flight (1/2 hour from SJC in a C182) so everyone should plan to join us, it’s quite an interesting and exciting display of aircraft.
